Question: After Rasulullah ﷺ passed away, is it permissible to do tawassul through him in du’a or not? Near you, is tawassul through prophets, sadiqeen, martyrs and awliya of Allah permissible or impermissible?

Answer: For us and our masha’ikh it is permissible to do tawassul in du’a by the prophets, the pious from the awliya, the martyrs and sadiqeen by saying in du’a, “Oh Allah! I make Tawassul to you by such and such that you may answer my du’a.” Other words similar to this can also be stated.

Our Shaykh, Maulana Shah Muhammad Ishaq al-Dehlawi has clarified this issue and then Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi has also explained this issue in his Fatwa which is published and is widely available. This issue has been discussed in its first volume on page 93. Whosoever wishes can read it.
