The Reality of Shirk, its Manifestations and its Types

By Shah Waliullah al-Muhaddith al-Dahlawi
Translated by Zameelur Rahman
www.deoband.org

Qur'anShirk is to affirm the special attributes of Allah (Exalted is He) for [those] besides Him, like:

(1) affirming absolute disposal (al-tasarruf al-mutlaq) in the cosmos (kawn) by an absolute will (al-iradah al-mutlaqah), which is expressed as “kun fayakun” (Be! And it is); (2) or affirming intrinsic knowledge (al-’ilm al-dhati) which has not been obtained through acquisition (iktisab) by means of the senses, rational proof, dreams (manam), inspiration (ilham) and their likes from [both] material and spiritual means;
(3) or affirming [the act of] existentialising (ijad) the healing of a sick person; (4) or affirming a curse on an individual or displeasure upon him such that the object of this curse becomes penniless, sick or wretched; or [affirming] mercy and satisfaction with an individual, such that he becomes by means of this mercy and pleasure, rich, healthy, fit and happy.

Clearest Rational Argument for the Existence of a Creator

By Mufti Yusuf Mullan
www.deoband.org

sunsetThe following six step argument has been formulated with the modern skeptic and atheist in mind. Drawing from the works of Imam al-Ghazali (may Allah have mercy on him) and others, each premise is accompanied with an explanation of the exact ‘manner of deduction’ (kayfiyyat al-wazn), so the reader may appreciate exactly what is being done.

Using only intuitively deductive modes of argument which have their origin in the Qur’an and which no sane human being can reject, the argument seeks to establish an Entity attributed with necessary existence (ithbat al-wajib) and attributes of perfection such as life, will, power and knowledge, and also free of resemblance to the creation in any way which would allow one to pose the question, Who created him? This will all be done based only on universally accepted absurdities (musta’hilat).

Sports and Entertainment in Islam

By Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani
Translated by Zameelur Rahman
www.deoband.org

sportsZuhayr ibn Harb narrated to me: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us: from Sufyan: from ‘Alqamah ibn Marthad: from Sulayman ibn Buraydah: from his father: that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“He who played backgammon is like one who dyed his hand with the flesh and blood of swine.” (Sahih Muslim)

His statement “dyed his hand with the flesh and blood of swine”: Al-Qurtubi said, “This is an allusion to sacrificing and slaughtering it while [it is know that] its slaughter is prohibited (haram).” Al-Nawawi said, “It is an allusion to eating it because the one who consumes swine his hand is polluted by the flesh of swine and if he slaughters it his hand is polluted by its blood.”

Abrogation in the Qur’an

By Shah Waliullah al-Muhaddith al-Dahlawi
Translated by Shaykh Muhammadullah Khalili Qasmi
Edited by Saad Khan
www.deoband.org

quranOne of the difficulties in the science of Qur’anic commentary is to know which are the abrogating verses (nasikh) and which are the abrogated ones (mansukh). This subject has been discussed at length with considerable disagreement [among Muslim scholars]. One of the main reasons behind the difficulty of this subject is the difference of opinion between the early and later scholars about the technical meaning of the word naskh (abrogation).

Prophecy regarding the Roman Victory in the Quran

By Ebrahim Saifuddin

Script

The verses dealing with the prophecy is as follows:

The Roman Empire has been defeated-
In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious-
Within a few years. - [Qur'an 30:2-4]

When one checks the historical records we see that the defeat which the Quran talks about is the defeat faced by the Romans at the hands of the Persians who conquered parts of Syria and Anatolia. When Emperor Heraclius came to power in 610CE, Khosrow II who was the ruler of Persia was attacking the Roman Empire. 613 and 614 were bad years for the Romans as they lost Syria and Jerusalem respectively.

Evidence for Difference in Salah between Men and Women

by Ebrahim Saifuddin

tm

Some people live in a delusion that rulings of difference in some positions of Salah between men and women are based on no evidence. They think that hundreds of years of scholarship was based on something that does not exist. How more misguided can they be. They wish not to study books of fiqh but yet wish to make such derisory statements. However, we will just move on to the basics to satisfy their ludicrous needs.
